Music Therapy and Health Insurance

Being a one woman show isn’t always easy. I find myself juggling session plans, scheduling, billing, and the general to dos of business on a daily business. I love being independent and the sole face of my business, but for me, growth is inevitable. And sometimes growth equals adding more to your plate so that you can eventually take some things off and focus on what is important!

That is why I am very excited to say that I have added insurance billing to my plate. I have had a few brave volunteers in the past month step up and be my guinea pigs, and I am ready to open this to current and future clients!

I am so excited to be able to make my services more accessible to Columbia, and I hope that you’ll join me in spreading the word!

  1. Great, Natalie! I am considering adding insurance billing to my plate also, but am a little afraid I may open a can of worms!! Any advice??

  2. WOW! Congrats! This is a HUGE step and I totally admire you taking on the new challenge. Can’t wait to hear how it goes!! I know your clients will love you for it and I hope to implement the same changes some day down the road (it’s all so intimidating, though!)

  3. I’d love to read more about your experience with insurance reimbursement! Keep us posted. It’s something I would like to try tackling again as well.
    Good luck with everything :)

  4. Hi. Can you give us a quick run down on what you are jumping into, and if you have additional credentials ( ie LCPC, MSW) under which you will bill? I would love to bill fort private practice hours but assume I won’t be able to without additional credentials. Would love to hear what your successes are. Good luck to you!

Btw, LOVE your blog. Great stuff.

    • Hi Victoria!

This is an excellent question! My only credential is my MT-BC, and I’m a bachelors level practitioner. Insurance companies like to give the impression that certain CPT codes are designated for certain professions, but in reality, that is simply not true. I highly highly highly recommend taking Jamie George’s CMTE at musictherapyed.com. She has been my go to in this process and explains everything in an easy step by step manner.
